Four high school football players who survived a New Jersey car crash that killed four of their teammates were released from the hospital Sunday in time for a candlelight vigil to remember the dead teens.

The Sunday evening vigil for Edgar Bozzi 16, Nicholas Conner, 16, Dean Khoury, 15, and Casey Brenner, 17, was held at their school, Mainland Regional High School, in southern New Jersey, the Press of Atlantic City reported.

All eight teens had left a football practice and were heading south on the Garden State Parkway on Saturday morning when the Ford Explorer they were traveling in rolled several times.

Sgt. Julian Castellanos, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police, said just before Exit 38a, which leads to the Atlantic City Expressway, they came over a hill and encountered a sudden traffic backup.

The driver, identified as Brenner, attempted to brake, lost control and the vehicle rolled.

The accident came just weeks before Mainland, a 1,600-student school, was to begin its school year, The Star-Ledger reported. Its football team, the Mainland Mustangs, was due to open its season Sept. 9.
