Cardinals activate Lyons, who takes Tuivailala's roster spot
The St. Louis Cardinals will have pitcher Tyler Lyons at their disposal when they open a three-game series in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
The team has activated Lyons (right intercostal strain) from the 10-day disabled list. The left-hander takes the roster spot of right-hander Sam Tuivailala, who was optioned to Triple-A Memphis after Sunday’s win over the Giants.
Lyons, 29, began the 2017 season on the disabled list while recovering from offseason right knee surgery. He came back long enough to pitch in two games, allowing one run in three innings before going back on the disabled list May 28.
Lyons made three injury rehabilitation appearances prior to his reinstatement. He was a combined 1-1 with a 5.56 ERA and seven strikeouts pitching for Class A Peoria, Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis.
Tuivailala is 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 10 games (11 innings) for the Cardinals this season.
