Cardinals put Siegrist on DL, recall Tuivailala
ST. LOUIS -- Mononucleosis will leave Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist on the shelf for a couple of weeks.
The Cardinals announced Friday that the left-hander has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 30, due to mononucleosis. He will be replaced on the 25-man roster by right-handed reliever Sam Tuivailala, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis.
Siegrist was 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA in 35 appearances for the Cardinals this season.
Tuivailala, 23, was 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA in 29 games for the Redbirds, converting 13 of 16 save opportunities. He has fanned 48 batters in 32 innings.
Tuivailala owns a career mark of 0-1 with 5.17 ERA in 16 games with the Cardinals in 2014 and 2015. He has recorded 21 strikeouts in 15 2/3 big-league innings.
