ST. LOUIS -- After five-plus seasons wearing a Cardinals uniform, Matt Adams is headed south.

The Cardinals announced prior to Saturday night’s game with the San Francisco Giants that they have traded first baseman Matt Adams and cash considerations to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for minor league infielder Juan Yepez. In addition, the Cardinals activated outfielder Stephen Piscotty, who had missed the past two weeks with a right hamstring strain, from the 10-day disabled list.

Yepez, a 19-year-old right-handed hitting infielder from Venezuela, had been playing at Single-A Rome, where he was batting .275 (39-for-142) with 13 doubles, one home run and 15 RBI in 35 games. The Cardinals will assign him to Class A Peoria upon his arrival.

Piscotty, the Cardinals' starting right fielder, is hitting .241 with two homers and 11 runs batted in this season
