Chapman's 56 consecutive home saves are an MLB record
Tuesday night against the Cardinals, Reds' closer Aroldis Chapman recorded his 56th consecutive save at Great American Ballpark, improving on a record he set in June.
Chapman broke Mariano Rivera and Eric Gagne's all-time consecutive home save record when he recorded his 52nd consecutive save at home vs. the Miami Marlins at Great American Ballpark on June 21. Rivera tied Gagne's record on April 30, 2010 but was unable to break Gagne's record when he blew a save at home a few weeks later.
Since breaking Rivera and Gagne's record, Chapman has recorded four more home saves, including Tuesday nights. The closer's record currently sits at 56 consecutive home saves. Chapman's last blown save at home came in September of 2012.
This season Chapman has coverted 23 of 24 saves. The Reds' lefty is 3-4 with a 1.77 ERA in 45.2 innings pitcher. Chapman is averaging 15.96 strikeouts per nine innings, tops in the majors among relievers.
