Clippers sign veteran forward Josh Smith
The Los Angeles Clippers have added 11-year NBA veteran forward Josh Smith to its roster, the team announced Thursday.
Smith spent last season with the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets, averaging 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.
The Clippers have made bench depth a priority this offseason, with the acquisitions of Lance Stephenson, Paul Pierce, Wesley Johnson and second-round draft pick Branden Dawson.
Smith more than likely will be one of the first Clippers off the bench, giving Doc Rivers some versatility when one or more of the starters need rest.
Last season, Smith shot 43.8 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range. His ability to stretch the floor will create space for shooters like J.J. Redick, Jamal Crawford and Pierce.
Very quietly, aside from the drama surrounding DeAndre Jordan's return, the Clippers have done a great job of collecting pieces that address needs from last season's roster.
