GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Randall Cobb will remain a member of the Green Bay Packers.
Ten hours after the window opened for unrestricted free agents to discuss contract terms with other teams, Cobb and the Packers agreed to terms on a new contract.
The deal is four years for $40 million with $17 million guaranteed, according to FOX Sports/FS1 Insider Mike Garafolo.
The Packers officially announced the signing on Monday.
Cobb reportedly turned down multiple other offers that would have paid him more money, opting instead to continue his career alongside NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The total value of the contract is for $1 million more than what Green Bay signed wide receiver Jordy Nelson for in July 2014. Nelson's guaranteed money is $11.5 million, so Cobb will far exceed his teammate in that regard.
Cobb was widely considered the top free-agent wide receiver on the market after Dallas gave the franchise tag to Dez Bryant and Denver did the same with Demaryius Thomas.
"I mean, of course; I think I've made that obvious," said Cobb in January when asked if he wanted to return to the Packers. "But like I've said before, this is a business. You don't know how it's going to go, what direction it's going to go in. So you just have to sit around.
"Hopefully I've put myself in position where it will handle itself. But only time can tell."
Cobb, still only 24 years old, is coming off a career-best season in which he posted 91 receptions for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. Those totals ranked him 11th in the NFL in yards, ninth in receptions and fourth in touchdowns.
Keeping Cobb and Nelson together with Rodgers was the Packers’ top offseason goal. When Cobb and Nelson both exceeded 90-plus catches, 1,200-plus receiving yards and 12-plus touchdowns this past season, they became first duo in league history to do so. That’s not a pairing that any team wants to split up, especially not a team that was four minutes away from reaching the Super Bowl.
Green Bay can now turn its attention to re-signing the rest of its free agents, beginning with right tackle Bryan Bulaga. The Packers’ other unrestricted free agents include cornerbacks Davon House and Tramon Williams, nose tackles B.J. Raji and Letroy Guion, quarterbacks Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn, fullback John Kuhn and defensive back Jarrett Bush.
