Comparing and contrasting Tim Duncan, Anthony Davis
Coach Monty Williams has had numerous conversations with his young star Anthony Davis. At 21-years-old, Davis is a dominant presence on the court, but he's still impressionable and finding his way in the NBA.
One name that has often come up in the discussions between Davis and Williams: Tim Duncan.
"They have similar demeanors," Williams said of Davis and Duncan. "There is no fake emotion. They both look at the game as a sanctuary and always look to make the right play. They never put themselves above the team, even though they could."
Williams played one season with Duncan: 1998 was Williams' last year with the Spurs and Duncan's first in San Antonio. Williams was also a coaching assistant with the Spurs in the 2004/05 season.
For all the similarities, Williams also sees differences in Davis and Duncan.
"Make no mistake, AD is blazing his own trail," Williams said. "Let's see where he is in another 5 or ten years. He still has a jovial side, whereas Tim is all business and always has been."
One other similarity between Davis and Duncan: they're double double machines. Davis is in a 3-way tie for first in the league with 18 double double games. Duncan isn't far behind with 16.
