Comparing AP top 25 votes for Badgers, Clemson and Ohio State
As Saturday's games came to a conclusion, I wondered aloud on Twitter what the chances were of Ohio State leaping over Wisconsin in the Associated Press top-25 poll.
After all, Wisconsin had a very uninspiring win over Purdue at home while Ohio State absolutely pummeled Nebraska on the road.
This also evolved into how far Clemson would drop, and if the Tigers would remain ranked higher than the Badgers. Clemson, then ranked No. 2, fell Friday night at Syracuse, but some on Twitter thought the Tigers had too many good wins to drop far.
Well, we found out Sunday that the Buckeyes did make a nice jump, from No. 9 to No. 6, but Wisconsin also moved up two spots which were vacated by Clemson and Washington (who were No. 5 but suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Arizona State). Clemson didn't make it out of the top 10, but did slip five spots to No. 7.
The vote totals for Wisconsin, Ohio State and Clemson were close, however. The Badgers coming in at 1,241 with Ohio State at 1,184 and Clemson 1,117.
Of the 39 voters who ranked Wisconsin and No. 5 or higher -- one had the Badgers at No. 2 (!!) and three others at No. 3 -- only one ranked Ohio State higher (No. 3 by Ed Daigneault of the Republican-American) and all slotted Clemson lower than UW.
Of the remaining 22 voters, 14 had Clemson ranked higher than Wisconsin and all but two had Ohio State higher (interestingly both of those, Brent Axe of Syracuse Media Group and Jerry DiPaola of the Pittbsurgh Tribune-Review, had Wisconsin at No. 6 and Clemson ranked lower).
