Cowboys HOFer Rayfield Wright: Any RB Can Run Behind This O-Line

Not that it needed another vote of confidence, but the Dallas offensive line got one on Monday night – and from a voice with some authority on the subject.

Rayfield Wright spoke to reporters Monday during the Cowboys' preseason practice at AT&T Stadium. The six-time Pro Bowl and four-time All Pro offensive tackle said the Cowboys' current group of blockers has something important in common with the great lines of the 1970s and the 1990s.

"Any running back can run behind them," he said.

That's quite an endorsement, considering Wright was part of the offensive lines that paved the way for Dallas to claim five NFC championships and two Super Bowl titles between 1970 and 1978.

For his efforts, Wright earned himself spots in the Cowboys' Ring of Honor and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

You won't hear any member of the Cowboys' current offensive line discuss those types of accolades – not since rookie La'el Collins put the league on notice by proclaiming this group one of the best in the NFL.

"This offensive line has developed and has developed into a great offensive line. They just need to stay healthy," he said.

That's been a point worth watching during the buildup to the season. Tyron Smith and Doug Free missed practice time during training camp while they dealt with minor injuries. Zack Martin has yet to return fully to practice after suffering a stinger in practice on Aug. 18. On top of that, rookie third-round pick Chaz Green has been absent all summer while he recoveries from offseason hip surgery.

Despite all of that, all five highly-touted starters are expected to be available when the Cowboys open the season Sept. 13 against the Giants -- giving Wright a chance to see just how favorable the comparisons are.
