Cowboys rookie CB Jones leaves practice with shoulder injury

Published Aug. 16, 2015 11:01 p.m. ET

Dallas Cowboys first round pick Byron Jones was helped off the practice field Sunday after injuring his left shoulder in a collision with fellow defensive back Morris Claiborne.

Owner Jerry Jones told The Dallas Morning News that the injury is not serious, although the rookie will likely miss Sunday's second preseason game at San Francisco.

"We feel like it's not as bad as it could have been," Jerry Jones said. "I don't know if he'll be here for San Francisco, but we're not talking about [him being] out long, the way I hear it tonight."

Byron Jones had surgery on the same left shoulder after injuring it during his final college season at Connecticut. However, the shoulder was healed in time for Jones to do 18 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press during UConn's pro day.
