Coyotes could be without Gordon for extended period
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Coyotes center Boyd Gordon could miss an extended period of time after being injured while blocking a shot in Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Head coach Dave Tippett told ArizonaCoyotes.com after Sunday's practice that Gordon was scheduled to see a doctor on Monday. "It looks like it'll be week-to-week," Tippett said.
Gordon has been a fixture on the Coyotes' fourth line and penalty-killing unit and has one of the top face-off percentages in the league at 57.3 percent on 646 draws. He has no goals and two assists while averaging 11 minutes and 57 seconds of ice time.
"He's been solid and has an impact on the game, not so much on the scoresheet but in the little things he does in the game," Tippett said. "He'll certainly be missed, but it's a great opportunity for somebody else."
The Coyotes assigned Steve Downie to Springfield of the American Hockey League on Sunday and are expected to call up a forward prior to their next game on Wednesday against Vancouver at Gila River Arena.
