GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Coyotes have recalled defenseman Anthony DeAngelo and center Tyler Gaudet from Tucson of the AHL in advance of Tuesday night's game at the Colorado Avalanche.
They'll fill spots on the roster held by defenseman Michael Stone and Martin Hanzal, both of whom were placed retroactively on injured reserve.
DeAngelo, 21, had a goal and four assists in eight games with the Roadrunners this season. He had six goals and 37 assists last season with the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate.
Gaudet, 23, had two goals and three assist in eight games with Tucson. He has a goal and two assists in 16 career games with the Coyotes over the past two seasons.
Gaudet will be counted on to help with the penalty-killing unit, Tippett said. "He's gone down and been a really good player for them -- face-offs, kills penalties, playing a real mature game down there."
DeAngelo will get an opportunity on the power play. "He's a great puck-mover," Tippett said. "He can help out on the power play."
Wing Tobias Rieder remains day-to-day with an lower-body injury, Tippett said, and goaltender Mike Smith is about a week away from a return to action. Smith skated and stopped pucks in Monday's practice.
DeAngelo, a first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014, will be making his NHL debut on Tuesday.
"I'm sure I'll have some nerves tomorrow before the game," he said. "Once the game starts, you try to push that aside and go to work."
