D-backs return Zack Godley to minors, call up Allen Webster
PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks have recalled right-handed pitcher Allen Webster from Triple-A Reno and optioned right-handed pitcher Zack Godley to Double-A Mobile.
Godley (3-0, 1.50 ERA) became just the second pitcher in club history to win in his first three outings after throwing six shutout innings in a 6-4 victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday night.
But with Patrick Corbin lasting just 1-1/3 innings in his Tuesday night start and Josh Collmenter throwing 8-1/3 innings in two outings over the last four days, Webster adds bullpen depth until righty starter Chase Anderson (triceps inflammation) makes his expected return this weekend.
Webster, who last pitched on Saturday, has a 3-5 record and 8.95 ERA in Reno. He made four starts at the major-league level in June, going 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA.
Godley was recalled to fill a spot in the rotation when Anderson went on the disabled list. Anderson pitched four scoreless innings in his first rehab appearance on Sunday and could be ready to rejoin the rotation on Saturday.
"We run into that situation a lot where you do what you have to do, not what you want to do," Arizona chief baseball officer Tony La Russa said.
