Dale Jr. to IndyCar? Earnhardt talks ride swap with Graham Rahal

Published Mar. 24, 2014 2:00 p.m. ET

Settle down Junior Nation, fan-favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. doesn't look to be going anywhere soon.

However, after IndyCar driver Graham Rahal spent the day taking in Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway, the pair began discussing a possible ride swap.

Rahal, who drives the No. 15 National Guard IndyCar for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, suggested the possibility of swapping rides to Earnhardt Jr. following Sunday's race on Twitter.

It did not take long for NASCAR's newest Twitter star to respond.

What followed was a couple of drivers trying to figure out how to put this wild idea into action.

Not to be ignored, American MotoGP star Nicky Hayden offered his bike up to Dale Jr., something the NASCAR star quickly turned down.

If the plan comes together and Rahal and Earnhardt swap rides, it certainly won'€™t be the first time a high-profile NASCAR driver trades his fenders for an open-wheel car.

Jeff Gordon traded his No. 24 Chevrolet for Juan Pablo Montoya's Formula One ride at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2004. More recently, Tony Stewart and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton swapped rides at Watkins Glen International in 2011.
