Davies records two scoreless innings in Brewers’ 3-1 loss
Making his first start of spring training, right-handed pitcher Zach Davies cruised through two innings of work in Milwaukee’s 3-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday afternoon.
Davies faced seven hitters, and only Franmil Reyes reached base on a walk in the first inning.
The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Hernan Perez stole third base and took home on an error by San Diego third baseman Ty France. But the Padres responded with two runs in the second inning off a homer from shortstop Fernando Tatis, Jr., who MLB.com lists as the second-ranked prospect in all of baseball.
Milwaukee’s Chase Anderson didn’t have the same fate as Davies, however. Anderson yielded the two-run blast by Tatis Jr. in the third inning and allowed a solo shot by Austin Hedges in the fourth.
Adrian Houser walked three hitters in one inning of relief but didn’t allow a run.
Hitting fifth in the lineup, catcher Yasmani Grandal collected his first hit of spring training and went 1 of 3 on the afternoon.
