DUI charge dropped against Miami Hurricanes RB Mark Walton

MIAMI (AP) -- Drunken driving charges have been dropped against University of Miami running back Mark Walton.

Ed Griffith, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office, confirmed Monday that the 19-year-old player no longer faces the DUI charge.

Police said Walton had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech when officers stopped him in April. Breath tests showed he had blood-alcohol levels of 0.059 and 0.06, which are above the Florida threshold of 0.02 for those under age 21.

Miami officials suspended Walton indefinitely after he was charged. School officials did not immediately comment on whether he would be reinstated.

Walton, a sophomore, finished spring practice atop the Hurricanes' depth chart at running back. As a freshman, Walton led Miami with nine rushing touchdowns and also had 300 kickoff return yards.
