Ex-Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland lands a job with the Seahawks
Welcome back, Jeff Ireland.
Just five months after ending his tenure as the Miami Dolphins general manager, Ireland has found his way back into the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. He has been hired to be a consultant with the defending champions through the 2014 NFL Draft.
The Seahawks had an opening after senior executive Scott McCloughan -- who also served as a de facto scouting director -- left the team to deal with a personal matter. Ireland will take over some of McCloughan's duties until the latter returns. The job is considered to be temporary.
Ireland had a checkered history with the Dolphins. His teams had an overall record of 46-50 during his six years at the helm. However, he also orchestrated the drafting of Pro Bowlers such as Jake Long and Mike Pouncey.
Ireland had a previous business relationship with Seahawks general manager John Schneider. The two had worked together with the Kansas City Chiefs in the late 1990s.
