Faith, tenacity guided Preds' Mike Fisher to 1,000 NHL games

Early in his career, Mike Fisher received a piece of advice from a former coach that went something like this:

"He told me the hardest thing is not making the NHL, it's staying in the NHL," Fisher explained. "I've tried to keep that in mind; you never get comfortable, always keep trying to get better as a player."

The Nashville Predators centerman has undoubtedly taken that message to heart.

Fisher will suit up for the 1,000th game in his NHL career on Thursday night, when the Preds host the New Jersey Devils at Bridgestone Arena, becoming only the 301st player in League history to hit the mark.

"It flies by," Fisher said of the upcoming milestone. "I remember I was just a young kid and looked up to all the older guys and once in a while jabbed them for being so old, and now here I am. I'm the old guy, and it just happens so fast."

The journey began in Peterborough, Ontario, and for as long as Fisher can remember, he was on skates. Like many who grew up in Canada, the dream was to one day make it to the NHL, but that was truly all Fisher ever wanted. He certainly had the talent to do so.
