Falcons RB Tevin Coleman in concussion protocol after slipping in the shower

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn announced on Thursday that rookie running back Tevin Coleman is now in concussion protocol after slipping in the team facility shower and hitting his head on Wednesday.

On a scale of unfortunate freak sports injuries — from 1 to MLB's Clint Barmes breaking his collarbone while carrying deer meat gifted from Todd Helton up a flight of stairs — this ranks at 2. It's unfortunate, scary injury that happens to about 21.8 million persons each year in the U.S.

The timing of it is kind of ironic given the Christmas Day release of the Will Smith-led movie "Concussion" about Dr. Bennet Omalu's findings about NFL players and head trauma (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).

The 22-year-old Coleman has carried the ball 87 times this season for 392 yards (4.5) average and one touchdown. The Falcons host the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
