Dan Straily, CIN (vs. MIL, vs. PIT)
Albert Suarez, SF (vs. SD, vs. STL)
Jose Urena, MIA (@ ATL, @ PHI)
Julio Urias, LAD (@ NYY, @ ARI)
Cream of the crop:
Kyle Hendricks, CHC (@ STL, vs. MIL)
It's hard to imagine a pitcher this good is the third option for the Cubs this season. Hendricks has a 2.07 ERA and a record of 14-7. In the past 10 starts, he's allowed more than two earned runs once. During that span, Hendricks has struck out at last five batters six times. He will face the strikeout-prone Brewers at home this week. Hendricks is 9-1 with a 1.21 ERA at Wrigley Field this season.
Carlos Carrasco, CLE (@ CWS, vs. DET)
While he hasn't put together back-to-back solid outings in terms of low earned runs, Carrasco continues to pile up the Ks. He's struck out at least eight batters in six of the past seven performances. Also, in three starts against the Tigers in 2016, Carrasco is 2-0 with a 0.51 ERA and has notched 14 Ks in 17.2 innings of work.
Potential bargains:
Ivan Nova, PIT (@ PHI, @ CIN)
Since joining the Pirates in August, Nova has allowed two earned runs or less in five of his seven starts, which includes his last four outings. While Nova hasn't faced the Phillies in 2016, he has two recorded starts against the Reds: 2-0 and a 2.25 ERA in 16 innings.
Jose De Leon, LAD (@ NYY, @ ARI)
In his first career start, De Leon was fortunate enough to face the Padres (6 IP, 3 ER, and 9 Ks). The next two venues are tough (Yankee Stadium and Chase Field), but his strikeout total makes him a decent bargain for this week.
Avoid at all costs:
Wily Peralta, MIL (@ CIN, @ CHC)
This season, on the road, Peralta is 1-5 with a 5.54 ERA. He travels to Cincinnati and Chicago this week.
Paul Clemens, SD (@ SF, @ COL)
He's allowed at least four earned runs in two of the past three starts. Clemens has lost in three consecutive starts and will travel to Colorado this week.
