Fantasy Football Week 16 DFS DraftKings contest and advice

Published Dec. 20, 2016 11:36 p.m. ET

Before we get to the Week 16 DFS suggestions, let me take a second to congratulate last week's contest winner: "stillreelin."

Their entry consisted of Ty Montgomery (33.3 DK points), Devonta Freeman (37.5), and Cameron Meredith (22.4).

Our own expert, John Halpin, earned the fifth-place spot with 163.92 points. He selected the running back duo of LeSean McCoy (34.9) and Ezekiel Elliott (30.8).

Week 16 DFS advice...

QB: Matt Barkley, Bears ($5,000)

This is the deal of the year. Barkley is priced at the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel salary of $5K. In the past three weeks, Washington has allowed Carson Palmer, Carson Wentz, and Cam Newton to throw for more than 300 yards. With Alshon Jeffery back and playing for a new contract, Barkley will have a great option in the passing game. Last week, Barkley threw for 362 yards against Green Bay. The only concern would be bad weather in Chicago.

RB: Todd Gurley, Rams ($6,500)

It's time for some redemption. Gurley is the only running back to face the 49ers this season and not register 100 rushing yards. That was back in Week 1 when all teams thought they had a chance at winning the Super Bowl; even Cleveland. Now, teams have shown their weaknesses and their opponents know how to exploit them. Gurley should surpass the 100-yard plateau for the first time this season and is listed at a safe enough price so you aren't extremely disappointed with a potential lackluster performance.

WR: Julio Jones, Falcons ($8,100)

'Member Week 4 when Jones torched the Panthers for 51 DK points? We 'member. He caught 12 passes for 300 yards and a TD on 15 targets. Sure, he's returning from an injury, but you can't overlook that potential. If Jones is active, I'm using him in 100 percent of my DFS lineups.

TE: Hunter Henry, Chargers ($3,500)

Last week, I suggested Charles Clay against the Browns. He caught seven passes for 72 yards and a TD. For the Week 16 DFS advice, the name alliteration continues. Henry has scored a touchdown in four of the past five games and should find the end zone yet again with Cleveland on the schedule. Opposing tight ends have scored in four of the past five games against the winless Browns.

D/ST: New England Patriots ($3,600)

Bryce Petty is already banged up. He suffered bruised ribs in the Cam Wake and Ndamukong Suh sandwich. Petty has thrown at least two INTs in two of the past three games. The Patriots have allowed 17 points, or fewer, in four of the past five games. The only other defense I'd consider this week is Tennessee (facing the Jaguars). There is only a $200 difference between the two D/STs. Plus, the Patriots are at home...and are 16.5-point favorites.
