Fontaine returns to Wild, Graovac heads to IR

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:42 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Wild on Wednesday activated right wing Justin Fontaine from injured reserve and placed rookie center Tyler Graovac on IR.

Fontaine missed the first two games of the regular season due to an upper-body injury. Fontaine had nine goals and 22 assists and was a plus-13 in 2014-15, his second season with the Wild.

"I'm excited, and I'm feeling pretty good now. I got a good week of skates in, and getting back into it," Fontaine told the team's website. "Just continuing to work on my game through practices, situational stuff."

Groavac played 13:37 in the season-opening win at Colorado but left with a lower-body injury and missed Minnesota's home opener against St. Louis. He also played in three games last year for the Wild after appearing 137 games for Iowa from 2013-15. Groavac is expected to be out a couple of weeks.

Fontaine is expected to play on the third line -- with Charlie Coyle moving back to center -- in his debut Thursday at Arizona. You can watch that game on FOX Sports North, beginning with Wild Live Pregame at 8:30 p.m.
