FOX Sports Wisconsin Midweek Stock Report for Feb. 17
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.
With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?
Letroy Guion, Packers defensive tackle: Guion began the season in legal trouble and suspended three games and in 13 games with Green Bay posted just 20 tackles with no sacks. But the Packers saw enough of Guion and likes what he brings to the table to sign the pending free agent to a three-year, $11.25 million contract. Cha-ching!
Wisconsin's women's hockey team: With one weekend to play, the Badgers won their first WCHA regular-season title since the 2011-12 season. Second-ranked Wisconsin can increase its momentum heading into the postseason as the Badgers wrap up the regular season against a tough series at No. 3 Minnesota.
Vitto Brown, Wisconsin forward: The junior hasn't played as much since Greg Gard took over as head coach, but in two games this past week he played 34 minutes -- the first time he's had more than 26 minutes under Gard (and that came in Gard's first game) -- against both Nebraska and Maryland, posting a combined 39 points on 14-of-21 shooting while also grabbing 12 rebounds. If Wisconsin is to continue its run and make some noise in the NCAA tournament, Brown will need to be a big part of it.
Ethan Happ, Wisconsin forward: The redshirt freshman has enjoyed a good first season at Wisconsin, but he's hit somewhat of a lull. In two games last week, Happ made just 2 of 10 field goals and 2 of 5 free throws in scoring a combined six points.
B.J. Raji, Packers defensive tackle: The signing of Guion leaves Raji in limbo. It was thought Green Bay would sign only one of its two big free-agent defensive linemen. It is looking more and more like Raji, who was Green Bay's first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft (No. 9 overall), might have a new home in 2016.
