FOX Sports Wisconsin Midweek Stock Report for Nov. 18
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting. With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?
Luke Fischer, Golden Eagles C
Freshman forward Henry Ellenson received a majority of the preseason hype for Marquette, but junior big man Fischer has served notice that he's a talent to be reckoned with, too. In Monday's 75-71 overtime victory against IUPUI, Fischer produced 17 points and 10 rebounds. And, in last Friday's narrow, season-opening loss to Belmont, the 6-foot-11, 245-pound transfer from Indiana had another double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Marquette (1-1) should be dominant in the post this season, if nothing else.
UW-Whitewater football
The fifth-ranked Warhawks preyed upon UW-Stout last Saturday, winning 63-14. Whitewater, which improved to 9-1 overall, led 49-7 by early in the third quarter. Jordan Ratliffe paced the Warhawks, registering 217 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. Whitewater has yielded just 20 total points over its last three contests.
Greivis Vasquez, Bucks PG
After a slow start to the 2015-16 NBA campaign, Vasquez has scored in double figures in three straight games. On Tuesday night, the veteran backup guard scored 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting, serving as perhaps the lone bright spot in the Bucks' one-sided loss at Washington. Last Saturday, in a 108-105 win over LeBron James and Cleveland, the 28-year-old produced 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting. Vasquez has also made four of his last eight 3-point attempts.
The Packers' ground game.
Most of the Packers' stats from Sunday's 18-16 loss to the Lions weren't all that bad. Green Bay's main blemish on the day came in the run game, where James Starks and company churned out just 47 yards. Green Bay averaged just 2.6 yards per carry in its third straight setback. The switch to Starks as the bell-cow runner wasn't exactly fruitful, as he ended the day with a rather pedestrian 42 yards on 15 carries.
Badgers men's basketball.
Wisconsin sure didn't look like a vintage, Bo Ryan-led squad in its season opener last Friday. On that night, the Badgers suffered a stinging, 69-67 loss to mid-major Western Illinois at the Kohl Center. Ryan's squad, which had entered the night ranked 17th nationally, shot just 25 percent after halftime. It marked the first time a Summit League school had ever beaten a nationally ranked Big Ten team on the road. To their credit, the Badgers promptly bounced back and routed Siena, 92-65, in their next outing.
Rashad Vaughn, Bucks SG
It appears coach Jason Kidd and the Bucks' brass are bringing their 19-year-old rookie along slowly. The 17th overall pick in last summer's NBA Draft, Vaughn has been saddled with three 'Did Not Play' outings so far this season and has yet to score more than five points in a game. After a solid showing during summer-league action, the UNLV product's regular-season production is a bit surprising.
