FOX Sports Wisconsin Midweek Stock Report for Oct. 14
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.
With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?
Dare Ogunbowale, Badgers RB
Wisconsin's junior tailback helped his squad move the chains at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., last Saturday, churning up 117 yards on 18 carries, as Wisconsin clawed out a wild, 23-21 victory over Nebraska. The Milwaukee native averaged 6.5 yards per attempt, with a long run of 32 yards. In six games this season, Ogunbowale has 426 total rushing yards on 77 carries (5.5 yards per attempt) and three touchdowns to go along with 14 receptions for another 109 yards. Not bad for a former walk-on defensive back.
The Packers defense
Green Bay's defenders took no mercy on an overmatched Nick Foles in Sunday's 24-10 win over St. Louis, racking up four interceptions, three sacks and 12 total QB hits. Quinten Rollins (two interceptions) and Clay Matthews (1.5 sacks) had the best production for the green and gold.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh
The Titans, now ranked No. 5 in the Division III ranks, on Saturday stunned defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater, 10-7, in Oshkosh. Greg Rand booted a 41-yard field goal with 10 minutes, 45 seconds remaining to put Oshkosh (4-1) over the top. Whitewater had entered the day riding a 36-game winning streak -- which had been the longest current streak in any of the NCAA's three divisions.
Bucks 3-point shooting
Yes, it's just the preseason, but Milwaukee is seeing an alarming trend forming. After its first two preseason games, Milwaukee was shooting only 29.6 percent from 3-point territory. In a 10-point loss to the rival Bulls in their exhibition opener, the Bucks shot just 27.3 percent from beyond the arc. Then, in Saturday's blowout loss in Detroit, Milwaukee shot 31.3 percent from downtown. Tuesday's nine-point win over Cleveland brought a slightly more respectable, 7-for-19 (37 percent) effort from distance.
Eddie Lacy, Packers RB
Lacy's performance last Sunday against St. Louis wasn't befitting one of the best backs in the NFL, as he registered just 27 yards on 13 rush attempts (2.1 yards per carry). While Lacy had a solid, 90-yard game against San Francisco on Oct. 4, he has yet to top 100 rushing yards in a game this season and hasn't reached the end zone since Week 1. When the weather gets cold at Lambeau in the not-so-distant future, the third-year back will need to step his game up.
James Starks, Packers RB
. . . Speaking of struggling running backs, Lacy's backup, Starks, hasn't seized many opportunities the last three weeks. Since Week 3, Starks has totaled 77 rushing yards on 31 attempts -- good for just 2.48 yards per carry. The sixth-year rusher did have a 19-yard reception last Sunday against the Rams, but otherwise hasn't been much of a factor since a Week 2 win over Seattle.
