Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has 1,962,386 votes in the latest figures announced Monday to increase his lead in voting for National League All-Star.
Goldschmidt extended his lead from roughly 250,000 last week to more than 700,000 over four-time All-Star Adrian Gonzalez (1,239,509) of the Dodgers.
Goldschmidt received a help from a concerted effort this past weekend.
Goldschmidt, who earned his first All-Star selection in 2013 as a reserve, leads the NL with 28 doubles and 43 extra-base hits, is tied for first with 92 hits and 165 total bases, ranks second with 52 RBI and 57 runs scored, third with a .552 slugging percentage, fourth with 27 multi-hit games, is tied for fifth with 15 home runs, is eighth with a .308 batting average and 10th with a .385 on-base percentage.
He would become the first D-backs first baseman and the fourth player in franchise history to earn a starting nod via the fan election. The other three to do so were second baseman Jay Bell (1999), third baseman Matt Williams (1999) and outfielder Luis Gonzalez (2001).
In other NL voting results, Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez overtook David Wright of the Mets to lead a packed group of five third basemen separated by approximately 260,000 votes. Ramirez, a two-time All-Star, has 1,279,902 votes to lead seven-time All-Star Wright (1,260,895), two-time All-Star and 2012 starter Pablo Sandoval (1,194,607) of the Giants, 2013 All-Star Matt Carpenter (1,049,472) of the Cardinals and Nolan Arenado (1,019,161) of the Rockies.
Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki continues to pace the NL with 3,287,460 votes, which ranks second in the majors behind AL leader Jose Bautista (3,665,208) of the Blue Jays. Tulowitzki on Monday also was named the NL captain for the home run derby.
Other NL leaders are: L.A.'s Yasiel Puig, Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen and Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez in outfield; Philadelphia's Chase Utley at second base and St. Louis' Yadier Molina at catcher.
The 85th All-Star Game will be Tuesday, July 15, at Target Field in Minnesota.
