Gophers forward Fitzgerald to miss 2016-17 season after tearing ACL

Gophers forward Davonte Fitzgerald will miss the 2016-17 season after tearing his ACL, medial and lateral meniscus in his left knee during practice Thursday.

The 6-foot-8 redshirt junior sat out last season after transferring from Texas A&M. Fitzgerald averaged 9.6 minutes and 3.5 points in 25 games for the Aggies as a sophomore in 2014-15. The Atlanta native was rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and ESPN coming out of high school.

"We are disappointed in the recent injury news as it pertains to Davonte," coach Richard Pitino said in a statement. "He had worked extremely hard to get himself ready for this season. We are confident he will be back and ready to go next season."
