Gophers senior Banham ties NCAA record in win over Northwestern
Sunday night's Super Bowl matchup may have been a defensive slugfest, but Gophers fans were treated to an offensive show in Evanston, Ill. earlier in the day.
University of Minnesota guard Rachel Banham tied the NCAA's single-game scoring record, torching the Northwestern Wildcats for 60 points while leading the Gophers to a 112-106 win in double overtime.
The NCAA's active scoring leader with 2,773 career points (good enough for 24th all-time), Banham became just the third player to crack the 50-point barrier this season, while tying a single-game record that has stood since 1987, six years before she was born.

Wagner College's Jasmine Nwajei has come close several times this season, scoring at least 50 points in games against Sacred Heart and St. Francis, but for now at least, Brown and Banham stand alone.

Banham and the Gophers return to action on Thursday, taking on Nebraska at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena.
