BEREA, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns had star wide receiver Josh Gordon at practice Monday morning, at least for a while.
Gordon left early to go in the building to participate -- presumably via teleconference or video conference -- in the rest of his appeal hearing.
All Browns head coach Mike Pettine said after practice is that Gordon had "league business" to which he needed to tend.
There's plenty at stake here.
Gordon, the NFL's leader in receiving yards last season, is facing a possible indefinite suspension for a level three violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. News of the violation and suspension first leaked in May, but the league has said nothing and the team has said little more than that in the months that have followed.
Gordon practiced throughout the spring and the start of camp until last Thursday, when he went to New York for his appeal hearing. That hearing reportedly went for 10 hours and was scheduled to resume Monday, apparently with Gordon able to either dial or video-conference in.
There's no answer on when a ruling may come, let alone what it may be.
So, the waiting game continues. The Browns practice again Tuesday morning and open the preseason Aug. 9 in Detroit.
