Greinke earns Gold Glove Award; Brito undergoes hamate surgery
PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke has been named the winner of a 2016 National League Rawlings Gold Glove Award as the league's best defensive pitcher.
It is the third consecutive Gold Glove for Greinke, who joins Harvey Haddix (1958-60), Bobby Shantz (1961-64), Bob Gibson (1965-73), Phil Niekro (1978-80) and Greg Maddux (1990-2002, ’04-08) in winning three years in a row.
Greinke is the first D-backs pitcher to win a Gold Glove. He tied for second among all pitchers with 7 defensive runs saved -- one less than Bartolo Colon. He had a .980 field percentage, making one error in 49 chances.
The Diamondbacks also announced that outfielder Socrates Brito suffered a fractured right hamate bone preparing for Winter League ball.
He underwent successful surgery on Tuesday. Typical recovery time is about eight weeks, which should put Brito on track for the start of spring training in February.
