The NCAA's decision to change its outdated rule and allow Div. I student-athletes unlimited meals and snacks made headlines Tuesday.

The best reaction may have come from former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen.

"The Hefty Lefty," as Lorenzen has long been known, delivered a tweet Tuesday evening for the ages.

"I'll tell (you) what the NCAA really lucked out that I don't have any eligibility left," he wrote.

At 320 (or so) pounds, Lorenzen was still playing minor league indoor football as recently as February. He played at Kentucky from 2000-03. Kentucky listed him at 6'4, 260.

Lorenzen earned a Super Bowl ring with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII as a backup quarterback. Despite being undrafted, he stuck with the Giants from 2004-07, then went to camp with the Indianapolis Colts in 2008.

Prior to the NCAA ruling change announced Tuesday, scholarship student-athletes received three meals a day or a food stipend. The new rule also allows walk-ons to attend training table and to receive unlimited meals.

The new rule will come into play on August 1. We'll see if Lorenzen applies for extra eligibility.
