How the Badgers ran and passed: Game 1 vs. Alabama
Another season, another weekly look (and as we progress, season) at the directions and success of Wisconsin's run game as well as the targets thrown to by Badgers quarterbacks.
For those new to this feature, I re-watch the game and chart each play, but don't track QB runs as they might be unplanned (i.e. scrambles) and/or sacks. Generally speaking, a run middle is over where the center lined up, inside is over where the guard lined up, outside the tackle or just beyond and wide is usually a reverse, end around, etc.
A couple of quick notes from this past week against Alabama: I didn't include Alex Erickson in the individual breakdown as he only had one carry, but he is included in the totals. Also, for the two passes knocked down at the line or just beyond, it was clear who Joel Stave was throwing to, so I counted those as a "regular" pass. However, the one time Stave threw the ball out of the end zone, it was plainly obvious he was just throwing the ball out of bounds and not to (or even close to) Erickson (credited on the game sheet as the target).

LI = left inside; LO= left outside; LW = left wide (i.e. end around); MID = middle; RI = right inside; RO = right outside; RW = right wide; INT = intended receiver on an interception
