Indians' Yan Gomes on postseason roster following injuries

CLEVELAND (AP) - Catcher Yan Gomes is on the Cleveland Indians' postseason roster after making a stunning recovery from a broken hand.

Gomes broke a bone in his right hand on Sept. 14 when he was hit by a pitch in a minor league rehab appearance, and it looked as if he wouldn't recover in time for the playoffs. However, the 29-year-old made a quick comeback and is one of three catchers on manager Terry Francona's roster for the Indians' matchup against the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS.

Gomes was limited to 74 games this season. He separated his right shoulder on July 17 in a collision while running to first base.

He returned to the lineup last week and hit a home run in his first at-bat in 77 days.

Gomes batted just .167 with nine homers and 34 RBIs in the regular season.
