'Inside the Marlins: Captain's Camp' premieres April 22 on FOX Sports Florida
MIAMI (April 20, 2018) – Tune in Sunday, April 22 at 5:30 p.m., on FOX Sports Florida, the statewide television home of the Miami Marlins, as we premiere an all-new episode of “Inside the Marlins” upon conclusion of Miami’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Titled “Captain’s Camp,” this must-watch episode will give Marlins fans an in-depth look at the new program, designed to instill the characteristics of championship players – on and off the field - in the club’s minor league prospects
When Marlins Owner Bruce Sherman and CEO Derek Jeter purchased the team, their first major hire in Baseball Operations was Jeter’s former coach and mentor, Gary Denbo, who was named Vice President of Player Development and Scouting, the same position he held with the Yankees for the previous three years. Denbo, who originally developed Captain’s Camp while with the Yankees, implemented the three-week seminar in Jupiter for the first time this spring.
Captain’s Camp taught prospects the qualities that make up a great leader and teammate. Participants learned about respect for the game, teammates, fans and community from a host of top baseball influencers, including former Marlin greats Juan Pierre and Mike Lowell. Only 25 prospects were invited to attend the camp after being nominated by coaches and managers throughout the organization. The Marlins want to build a culture in their organization that instills the same attributes in its young players that have made highly-respected champions, like CEO Derek Jeter, successful on and off the diamond.
Viewers will hear from current Marlins teammates Justin Bour and Miguel Rojas, President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill, Vice President of Player Development and Scouting Gary Denbo, Manager Don Mattingly, former Marlin Juan Pierre, as well as top prospects Monte Harrison, Braxton Garrett, Tyler Kolek, Riley Mahan, Matt Givin and Stone Garrett.
