ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Edwin Jackson has had some good days at Tropicana Field. Tuesday was not one of them.
The Padres right-hander gave up eight runs, nine hits and three walks in just four innings of San Diego's 15-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.
"I pretty much single-handedly sucked the soul out of the team," Jackson said. "As a starter your job is to go deep and I feel like as a starter it's my job to keep the team in the game and I didn't do that tonight.""
Brad Miller hit two of the Rays' five home runs, including a solo shot off Jackson that Rays manager Kevin Cash said "might have been the most impressive home run we've seen at this ballpark this year."
Jackson (3-3) won 14 games for the AL champion Rays of 2008 and pitched a no-hitter at Tropicana Field for the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 25, 2010.
But the right-hander was out of this one in a hurry and didn't get much help from the Padres, who gave up 15 runs for the fourth time this season.
"I don't think we looked too good in any respect today, it's just the honest truth," Padres manager Andy Green said. "But it's just one day, and it's up to us to turn the page tomorrow."
Evan Longoria had three hits and his 27th homer while tying Carl Crawford atop the Rays' career list with his 1,235th game played.
Nick Franklin and Corey Dickerson also homered, and the Rays won their third straight.
Rookie Blake Snell (4-5) struck out eight in five innings, giving up one run, five hits and four walks. Alexei Ramirez, who had two hits for the Padres, drove in their only run with a bases-loaded walk.
The Rays entered the game with an AL-low .240 batting average but have scored 35 runs in their past three games, their most ever over a three-game span.
The Padres have lost seven of nine.
MOVING DAY
The Padres recalled RHP Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso and optioned RHP Leonel Campos to the Chihuahuas. Campos had a 6.59 ERA in 10 games after allowing five runs in Monday's 8-2 loss to the Rays.

Padres: RHP Tyson Ross (right shoulder inflammation) threw 31 pitches in a simulated game. The Padres' plan is to "get him back on the mound before the year's out," Green said . ... OF Jon Jay (fractured right forearm) is not ready to return, as determined by a CT scan. Jay has been on the disabled list since June 20.

Padres: LHP Christian Friedrich (4-8) makes his 17th start of the season Wednesday in the final game of a nine-game trip.
Rays: RHP Chris Archer (6-16), who leads the majors in losses and the AL in strikeouts with 177, is attempting to avoid becoming the first 20-game loser since Detroit's Mike Maroth lost 21 in 2003.
