Jayhawks considering appeal of De Sousa suspension

Kansas forward Silvio De Sousa was ruled ineligible by the NCAA for the remainder of the 2018-19 season and the entire 2019-20 campaign on Friday.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas is exploring an appeal of the NCAA's decision to declare sophomore forward Silvio De Sousa ineligible for the rest of this season and all of next.

The governing body announced the punishment Friday, ending a three-month back-and-forth between the NCAA and the school over De Sousa's eligibility this season. Kansas says it forcefully objects to the NCAA ruling.

Athletic director Jeff Long said before Saturday's game against Texas Tech that the university stands behind De Sousa, and that his trust in the NCAA has been shaken.

De Sousa's name surfaced last summer as part of the FBI's investigation into college basketball corruption. His guardian, Fenny Falmagne, is accused of receiving a $2,500 payment from a "university booster of agent" and agreeing to an additional $20,000 payment for directing De Sousa to Kansas.
