Kane Williamson moves to No 1-ranking for test batting

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) Kane Williamson became the first New Zealander to top the test batting rankings after scoring an unbeaten century Monday to lead New Zealand to a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second test at Hamilton.

Williamson's 108 not out - the 13th test century of his career and his fifth in the calendar year - steadied New Zealand's innings as it lost five wickets chasing 189 to beat Sri Lanka at Seddon Park.

In reaching his century, Williamson surpassed Brendon McCullum's record for a New Zealander of 1,164 runs in tests in a calendar year. He has 1,172 run s in 2015 at a remarkable average of 90.1.

Williamson's scores in tests in 2015 were 69, 242 not out, 132, 27, 6, 0, 140, 59, 166, 32 not out, 22, 9, 88, 71, 1 and 108 not out.
