Former NBA star Kenny Anderson has had his high school coaching career derailed by a DUI arrest.
On Saturday, Anderson, 42, was arrested and accused of DUI in Pembroke Pines, Fla. According to the Sun-Sentinel, the police reported he had a blood alcohol level of .194 (Florida’s legal limit is .08).
On Wednesday, he lost his job as head coach at David Posnack Jewish Day School. Anderson had coached at the school since 2011. They went 1-14 last season.
This wasn’t Anderson’s first traffic arrest. Anderson was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in December 2011 when he allegedly crashed into two trees after going too fast around a curve. Anderson told an officer then that he had blown a tire.
The former Georgia Tech standout was part of a “Lethal Weapon 3” team in Atlanta that included Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver. Anderson later was drafted by the New Jersey Nets and stayed there until 1996. He played for eight more NBA teams from 1996-2005.
Anderson scored 10,789 points (an average of 12.6 per game) and had 5,196 assists (6.1 per game) in his NBA career.
