LAFC's Carlos Vela named MLS Player of the Week
What does contributing to three goals and leading a team to an unblemished opening record get you? Evidently some bling!
LAFC forward Carlos Vela has been voted the MLS Player of the Week for the second week of the 2019 season.
With a goal and two assists, Vela helped the Black & Gold to a convincing 4-1 victory over the Portland Timbers on Sunday afternoon at Banc of California Stadium.

Vela’s first assist of the night came in the 14th minute, sending a corner kick into the box for a Mark-Anthony Kaye header to give LAFC the 1-0 advantage. In the 65th minute, Vela would add his second assist with a perfectly placed cross to Adama Diomande for an easy tap-in.

Three minutes later, the Club’s first-ever Designated Player would get his first goal of the season with a left-footed curling shot to the far post pushing LAFC’s lead to 4-1.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
