TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.
Dr. Thomas Graham performed the procedure at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Bishop will need a 3-4-month rehabilitation, but he's expected to be ready for the start of training camp before next season. Last Thursday, Bishop said he tore the ligament during warm-ups before a Jan. 5 game at Edmonton. He said he re-injured it during a home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 6.
Bishop, 27, emerged as one of the NHL's most consistent goaltenders last season. A Vezina Trophy finalist, he finished with a 37-14-7 record with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage with five shutouts. He became Tampa Bay's single-season leader in wins, save percentage and goals-against average.
