Long names Bob Toledo offensive coordinator
San Diego State head coach Rocky Long named Bob Toledo his offensive coordinator on Thursday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to add Coach Toledo to our staff," Long said. "He has a great football mind and has done a fantastic job of developing offensive talent.”
Former UCLA and Tulane head coach will have the duty of replacing former Aztecs offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig who took the same position at Wisconsin.
Toledo, 66, brings 39 years of collegiate coaching experience on the West Coast including 18 as a head coach.
“His knowledge of California football will only help our recruiting as we continue to build our program here at San Diego State," Long said.
The interview process did not get dragged out as it was Monday afternoon that AztecReport.com reported that Toledo was spotted on the San Diego State campus for an interview.
Toledo has worked with the Aztecs head coach before, as he was the offensive coordinator at New Mexico under coach Long for one season in 2006. While Long was Toledo's defensive coordinator at UCLA for two seasons in 1996 and 1997.
Coach Long has acknowledged that there was 2-to-3 other candidates including assistant head coach/running backs coach Jeff Horton.
