Lumberjacks look to close season on winning note
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- With a spot in Football Championship Subdivision playoffs not in the cards, Saturday is Senior Day for the Northern Arizona football team.
The Lumberjacks will host Southern Utah in the season finale as both teams compete for the Grand Canyon Trophy. Kickoff at the Walkup Skydome is scheduled for 2 p.m. on FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports Go.
NAU will honor 21 seniors pregame at the Skydome, where it is 3-1 this season.
Since the rivalry game was introduced, Southern Utah won three out of the four games, including the last two. NAU has not beaten the Thunderbirds at home Sept. 19, 2009. The teams are 4-4 against each other in the last eight meetings.
Emmanuel Butler is looking to become NAU's first receiver to register 1,000 yards in two different season. He sits at 903 yards entering Saturday's game. Butler (106), Elijah Marks (115) and Delshawn McClellon (119) each registered 100-plus-yards receiving last week at North Dakota. NAU is the only FCS school this season to have three receivers accomplish the feat in the same game.
Southern Utah enters the game on a one-game losing streak after it fell to BYU last week in non-conference matchup. Prior to that, the Thunderbirds were on a two-game win streak with victories over Idaho State and Montana State.
