Magic top Mavs in OT in debut for Jennings, Ilyasova
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- It didn't take Brandon Jennings long to have a positive impact.
Three days after coming to the Orlando Magic in a trade with Detroit, the veteran guard scored 18 points and had four assists in a 110-104 overtime victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.
"I picked my spots when I was open, made my shots and then found guys when they were open," said Jennings, who played the entire overtime period.
Victor Oladipo, who had 17 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, hit the 3-pointer that put Orlando ahead for good in overtime.
"We did a great job of fighting through adversity tonight," Oladipo said. "We were very resilient. I think that showed in the fourth quarter. We've had a lot of games like that this season and everybody's demeanor was just the way you want it. Nobody panicked. We felt like we could win the game and we did."
The Mavericks came back from an early 21-point deficit to lead by as many as 14 and broke a franchise record with 19 3-pointers, but still lost for the fifth time in six games.
"It's a long game and you've got outlast a team like this and we were unable to do it," said Dallas coach Rick Carlisle. "Frankly the group we have is not doing a good job finishing games."
They didn't start this one very well either, missing their first eight shots. Nik Vucevic scored seven points on an early 11-0 Magic run, and two straight baskets by Jennings gave Orlando a 31-10 lead late in the first quarter before the Mavericks shot their way back in it.
Dallas had the 21-point lead erased before halftime, connecting on nine 3-pointers in a 38-point second quarter.
Deron Williams scored 25 points for Dallas and Chandler Parsons added 24, and the pair combined to make 11 of 16 3-pointers. Williams' record-setter with 9.3 seconds left in overtime was Dallas' only 3-pointer in more than 14 minutes.
Charlie Villanueva tied the franchise record with 9:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, hitting the Mavericks' 18th 3-pointer of the game.
Vucevic led the Magic with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Evan Fournier's layup with 12.2 seconds left in regulation tied it for the Magic, and Dirk Nowitzki missed a jumper just before the buzzer to send the 98-all game into overtime.
Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Jennings scored the final nine points for the Magic.
Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova were playing in their first game with Orlando, having been acquired in a Tuesday trade that sent forward Tobias Harris to Detroit.
