Marlins promote outfielder Jordany Valdespin from Triple-A
The Miami Marlins selected the contract of outfielder Jordany Valdespin from Triple-A New Orleans prior to Tuesday's game in Boston.
It comes as the corresponding roster move for the demotion of struggling center fielder Marcell Ozuna, who got sent down to New Orleans after Sunday's loss amid a 1 for 37 slump.
In 60 games with the Zephyrs, Valdespin hit .287 with 10 doubles, three triples, one home run, six stolen bases and 16 RBI. He had a productive spring training, batting .378 with four triples and eight RBI, but Ichiro Suzuki had already secured the fourth outfield spot.
This marks the second straight season Valdespin joins the ballclub over the summer. In 2014, he posted a .214 average with two doubles, a triple, three homers and 10 RBI in 52 games. Defensively, he saw most of his time at second base (17 games) but also appeared in center and right field.
