Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton shares photos of injury, recovery
For just the second time since last Thursday's chilling injury in Milwaukee, Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton took to social media to share his progress.
Stanton, who was struck in the face by an 88 mph fastball from Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers, sustained multiple facial fractures and dental damage, while requiring stitches for a facial laceration.
On Tuesday afternoon, Stanton posted to Instagram before and after images from the hospital and likely his Miami apartment.
"The Aftermath...Making huge progress!! Want to thank everyone who has played a part in my recovery process. Your kind messages, thoughts & prayers have meant the world to me. Pushing forward"
The 24-year-old reportedly wants to play again this season, a National League MVP-caliber one. Before the injury, the two-time All-Star led the NL with 37 homers and 105 RBI. Since missing the past four games, Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has overtaken him with one more run driven in.
Miami (73-76) has gone 2-2 since Friday without Stanton in the lineup and sits six back of the second NL wild-card spot with 13 games remaining. The Marlins, currently in New York City on the final leg of a 10-game trip, return home on Thursday. Stanton has not seen his teammates since the incident, but his jersey has hung in the dugout each game.
