Midweek Stock Report: Bridgewater throws in new video
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports North takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who is heating up and who is cooling off.
With that in mind, let's take stock of the current Minnesota sports scene.
Teddy Bridgewater, Vikings quarterback
Bridgewater has kept a low profile since a freak non-contact injury nearly cost the Vikings' quarterback his leg last year, but after several months of near-silence he provided a quick update on his progress yesterday. Bridgewater can be seen throwing a football in a video posted to his private Instagram page earlier this week. It's impossible to glean much of anything from the short clip, but Bridgewater's left leg is almost entirely encased in a large brace.
Luke Kunin, Wild prospect
It's been quite the week for Minnesota's top prospect. Just a few days after signing his amateur tryout Kunin has hit the ground running in the AHL, and netted his first pro hat trick Tuesday in a win over the Rockford IceHogs. Kunin racked up 38 points during his sophomore season at Wisconsin, and appears to be a real threat to make the Wild next season. The kicker? He's still only 19.
Hunter Miska, Minnesota Duluth goalie
The Bulldogs' freshman held off an Ohio State comeback in the first round of the NCAA tournament, making 40 saves to lead Duluth to a 3-2 overtime win over the Buckeyes. UMD won in overtime again in the regional finals, knocking off Boston University and advancing to the Frozen Four.
Ricky Rubio, Wolves guard
Rubio's field-goal percentage has dipped a bit over his last few games, but he's kept right on scoring. Rubio has averaged 18.7 points per game over the last week, and came through with three clutch free throws Tuesday to help the Wolves to a 115-114 win over the Indiana Pacers. Rubio was fouled as he tried to get off a 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, hitting all three free throws to secure the win.
ByungHo Park, Twins designated hitter
Park hit his fifth home run of spring training Tuesday, lifting the Twins to a 1-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. He's now hitting .362 with a .723 slugging percentage, and is a strong contender to win a spot on the Twins' opening day roster with Kennys Vargas nursing a foot injury.
Zach Parise, Wild forward
Parise went down following a scary play in the Wild's 5-4 loss to the Washington Capitals, when Tom Wilson's stick caught the Minnesota native in the face during the first period. Chris Stewart later came to Parise's defense, leaving Wilson with a nasty cut over his eye. Head coach Bruce Boudreau later announced that Parise's eye is fine, but that he suffered an undisclosed upper body injury on the play.
Phil Hughes, Twins pitcher
Hughes surrendered six runs -- five earned -- in two innings of work last Wednesday, before surrendering four more in six innings against Pittsburgh on Monday. He now has a 6.55 ERA in spring training.
The University of Minnesota men's hockey team
The Gophers' return to the NCAA tournament was short-lived. The Gophers went cold after opening up a two-goal lead early in the second period, surrendering three straight goals the rest of the way in a first-round loss to Notre Dame.
