Midweek Stock Report: Parise breaks through
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports North takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who is on the rise, and who is quickly plummeting.
With that in mind, let's take stock of the current sports scene in Minnesota.
Justin Kloos, Gophers forward
Kloos led the Gophers to a weekend sweep over Michigan State, racking up five points and earning Big Ten First Star honors. Kloos led the conference in scoring over the weekend, racking up a goal and four assists, including three points in the series opener Friday. He now leads the Gophers in scoring with 23 points (11 goals) this season.
Adam Thielen, Vikings receiver
Thielen's breakout season continues. The former undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State Mankato (as an alum I am obligated to point that out in this and all future articles) led the Vikings with 101 receiving yards against Jacksonville, his second-highest total of the season. He now has 758 receiving yards on the season, and is on pace to triple his career total by the end of the season.
Zach Parise, Wild forward
Parise's scoring totals are way, way down this season thanks to a combination of injuries and general snake-bitten-ness, but he finally got back in the goal column Tuesday to snap a seven-game drought. Parise opened the scoring midway through the first period, pouncing on a wandering Aaron Ekblad as he drifted towards the wall to pick up Jason Pominville, barreling into the slot and rifling a goal far post.
Zach LaVine, Timberwolves guard
The Wolves rallied after falling behind early in a win over the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday, and LaVine led the charge. He finished with 24 points, six rebounds, six assists and a block. He is now averaging just over 23 points in his last 10 games.
Brandon Fusco, Vikings guard
"We're kind of used to it now," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said after Fusco left the game in the fourth quarter with his second concussion of the season. Jeremiah Sirles, Fusco's backup, was already in the game at right tackle, forcing Zac Kerin into action. The Vikings are now dealing with two concussions on their offensive line, as center Joe Berger was held out for the second straight game.
Laquon Treadwell, Vikings receiver
After appearing in three consecutive games for the first time this season Vikings rookie Laquon Treadwell was back on the sidelines Sunday with an ankle injury. While concerns about the rookie's development have been overblown in recent weeks, it's yet another disappointing setback for a player who was expected to contribute early for the offensively-suspect Vikings. Treadwell has just one reception on the season.
