With a roster made up of Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles, Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus, we figured it would be impossible for the Minnesota Lynx to look more intimidating on the court.

We thought wrong.

The Lynx released their new logo Friday evening at halftime of a game against the rival Los Angeles Sparks, roaring in the next era of women's basketball in Minnesota.

Minnesota's new logo features a ferocious gray lynx with four sharp teeth, two green eyes and one nasty attitude.

The Lynx's updated branding shares many similarities with the Timberwolves' revamped logo. Both have a color scheme of midnight navy, lake blue and aurora green -- although gray is much more prominent in the Lynx's logo. The logos also share the same font, circular shape and iconic green star placed in the middle of a basketball in the background.

"As we move back into Target Center next season, we wanted an identity that honors the achievements of the past while capturing the hopes and dreams of another generation of Lynx fans," said Timberwolves and Lynx CEO Ethan Casson. "This new mark of the Minnesota Lynx reflects the fierce determination of our team and the barriers that have been broken in establishing ourselves as an elite organization locally and within the WNBA. New logo, new uniforms and a new home court will help celebrate our 20th season in our renovated home and lead us into the next 20."

It replaces the original Lynx logo, one that has been used since Minnesota's inaugural season in the WNBA in 1999. That logo did get a slight makeover with an adjusted color scheme in 2011, however.

The old logo had a good run Minnesota: eight playoff appearances, three Rookie of the Year awards, one MVP and three league championships in 19 seasons -- well, pending one more, of course.

Minnesota will finish the 2017 campaign wearing the old logo. The Lynx will feature the new look next summer when they move back into the Target Center.
