Minor league report: Jensen homers twice, drives in 7
Reno Aces first baseman Kyle Jensen had a huge night at the plate Monday in the Aces' 10-1 victory over Colorado Springs, belting a grand slam and a three-run homer.
The two blasts gave Jensen, who finished as runner-up in last week's Triple-A Home Run Derby, 19 home runs for the season, and the seven RBI pushed his total to 83, which leads the Pacific Coast League.
Jensen's three-run homer came in the first inning off Josh Hader, the fourth-ranked prospect in Milwaukee's minor-league system. The grand slam -- hit to straightaway center field -- came following three consecutive walks in the sixth.
Jensen reached base four times overall -- walking in the third inning and hitting a single in the eighth.
"Sometimes you take a couple days off and it throws you out of the loop a little bit, so it was nice to keep getting at-bats during the All-Star Break," Jensen told milb.com, referring to his participation in the Home Run Derby." It was nice to come back and feel comfortable in the box after only taking a couple days off."
Peter O'Brien was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI for the Aces, and starting pitcher Braden Shipley (8-5) limited Colorado Springs to one run, seven hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out seven. Mitch Haniger reached based three times and scored three runs. Haniger is hitting .366, and over his past five games he is 8 for 16 with eight runs, two home runs, six RBI and a .619 on-base percentage.
Shelby Miller is scheduled to start for Reno against Colorado Springs on Tuesday night.
--David Peralta doubled in Mobile's only run in his second rehab appearance with the Bay Bears on Monday night, a 3-1 loss to Chattanooga. Peralta is 1 for 6 in two games.
--Keller teamed up with two relievers for a shutout in Visalia's 2-0 win over Bakersfield. Keller (7-6) struck out seven, gave up five hits and did not walk a batter in 7 2/3 innings. Third baseman Joe Munoz hit his first home run since being promoted from Kane County to account for the Rawhide's only runs.
